Post-doctoral Research Fellow position at SR-Tiget

IRCCS San Raffaele Scientific Institute in Milan, Italy, is looking for a Post-doctoral Research Fellow to join the Gene Transfer into Stem Cells Unit led by Prof. Giuliana Ferrari at the San Raffaele-Telethon Institute for Gene Therapy (SR-Tiget), Milan, Italy, under the supervision of Dr. Annamaria Aprile, to work on hematopoietic stem cells and the bone marrow niche in hemoglobinopathies. The research activities of the laboratory integrate basic biology and translational research on hemoglobinopathies – beta-thalassemia and sickle cell disease – aimed at: i) optimizing gene therapy protocols; ii) understanding the pathophysiological mechanisms with a focus on hematopoietic stem cells and the bone marrow niche; iii) developing targeting strategies to restore a functional hematopoiesis. The successful candidate will drive a project focused on dissecting the bone marrow niche at single-cell resolution and targeting the altered interactions in mouse models of beta-thalassemia and sickle cell disease and in patient-derived samples to improve transplantation and gene therapy approaches.

 Main activities:

  • Mouse work (mouse handling, in vivo treatments, cell isolation);
  • flow cytometry, histology;
  • molecular biology (PCR, ELISA, etc.);
  • primary cell cultures and gene therapy protocols;
  • data analysis and critical interpretation of the results;
  • discussion of project results at internal and external meetings.

 Who we are looking for:

  • Highly motivated and skilled candidate with a PhD degree in Biotechnology, Biological Sciences or related fields;
  • experience in cellular and molecular biology and mouse models;
  • high reliability, precision and ability to work autonomously in a collaborative team;
  • expertise in flow cytometry, histology and/or single-cell data analysis will be considered as a plus.

 Work details:

  • Type of contract: fixed-term full-time contract (assunzione a tempo determinato);
  • duration: 2 years, renewable;
  • place of work: IRCCS San Raffaele Scientific Institute , Via Olgettina, number 60 - Milan (Italy)
  • competitive salary based on qualifications and experience.
