JUNIOR POST-DOC POSITION AT REGULATION OF IRON METABOLISM UNIT

IRCCS San Raffaele Scientific Institute in Milan, Italy, is looking for a Junior Post-Doc to join the Regulation of Iron Metabolism Unit led by Dr. Antonella Nai at the Division of Genetics and Cell Biology (https://research.hsr.it/en/divisions/genetics-and-cell-biology/regulation-of-iron-metabolism.html). The Unit is mainly interested in dissecting the complex mechanism/s that control systemic iron regulation both in physiologic and in pathologic conditions. The latter include genetic forms of Hereditary Hemochromatosis and ineffective erythropoiesis as Thalassemias, acquired forms of anemia (as Anemia of Inflammation, Chronic Kidney Disease and Malaria infection) and metabolic disorders (as Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, NAFLD).

We are seeking for an enthusiastic and motivated junior postdoctoral fellow to work on a project funded by the Telethon-Cariplo alliance (https://www.telethon.it/cosa-facciamo/ricerca/progetti-finanziati/studio-del-ruolo-della-atp-sintasi-atp5mgl-nella-beta-talassemia) focused on the study of the function of the ATPase complex and the Tdark protein ATP5MGL in the regulation of erythroid cell respiration, proliferation and differentiation. The role of the system in disorders characterized by ineffective erythropoiesis, such as β-thalassemia, will be also investigated.

Main activities:

  • Lead the research project with independency, curiosity and creativity
  • Carry on in vivo, ex vivo and in vitro studies
  • Implement novel experimental procedures and protocols
  • Contribute to Master students supervision

Who we are looking for:

  • Ph.D. in biological sciences
  • Ability to work independently as part of a team
  • Solution-oriented attitude and good communication skills in spoken and written English
  • Experience with cellular and molecular biology
  • Previous experience in the hematology field and/or in gene editing strategies will represent a favorable asset

Work details:

  • Type of contract: Collaboration (Co.Co.Co) - Salary will be commensurate to research experience
  • Duration: 1 year (renewable for up to 2 years)
  • Place of work: IRCCS San Raffaele Scientific Institute, via Olgettina, 60 - Milan (Italy)
