Pre-doctoral Research Fellow - Human Inherited Neuropathy Unit

IRCCS San Raffaele Scientific Institute in Milan is looking for a Pre-doctoral Research Fellow to join the Human Inherited Neuropathy Unit, led by Prof. Alessandra Bolino (https://www.unisr.it/docenti/b/bolino-alessandra).

The research fellow will contribute to further elucidate the molecular mechanisms at the basis of severe forms of demyelinating neuropathies with childhood or infantile onset (autosomal recessive Charcot-Marie-Tooth diseases). These mechanisms are related to the interplay between membrane trafficking and cytoskeleton remodelling in Schwann cells and to mitochondrial transport and physiology in the axons (for reference: Bolino and D’Antonio, JPNS 2023; Sawade et al. Nat Comm 2020; Guerrero-Valero et al., PNAS 2021; Cipriani et al Brain Comm 2025). Using in vivo and ex vivo preclinical models developed in the lab, the candidate will also test the efficacy of therapeutic strategies based on pharmacological treatments and viral-mediated gene replacement (AAVs, Adeno-associated viral and LVs, Lentiviral vectors). Our laboratory collaborates with the Department of Neurology of the Hospital and participates to established national and international clinical networks on these diseases.

Main activities:

  • Primary cells (patient fibroblasts; Schwann cell/DRG neuron co-cultures);
  • Biochemical analyses;
  • Lipidomic and proteomic analyses;
  • Immunohistochemistry on cells and tissues;
  •  AAV9 delivery in vivo in animal models of CMT;
  • Vector biodistribution by real time PCR analyses (VGCN);
  • Quantitative mRNA analysis;
  • Morphological analyses of the peripheral nervous system.

Who we are looking for;

  • The candidates hold a Life Science degree;
  • Highly motivated candidates who wish to be enrolled in a PhD training program in the next years;
  • Ability to work in team; research planning and organization, and communication skills are required.

Work details:

  • Type of contract: full time;
  •  Immediately available;
  • Place of work: IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital, via Olgettina 60, Milano, Italy.
Sede: Milano, MI (Italia)
