Post-doctoral Research Fellow to join the Stem Cell and Neurogenesis Lab

IRCCS San Raffaele Scientific Institute in Milan, Italy, is looking for a post-doctoral research fellow to join the Stem Cells and Neurogenesis headed by Dott. Vania Broccoli at the Division of Neuroscience. The project will focus on the validation of a new gene therapy approach for Ataxia Telangiectasia (A-T). This disease is one of the most common genetic ataxias and is caused by recessive mutations in the ATM gene which encodes for a kinase with prominent role in orchestrating response to DNA damage and other cell stress stimuli. The lab has developed a new methodology which, for the first time, creates the basis to rescue ATM gene expression providing an unprecedented opportunity to develop a gene therapy approach to treat neurological and peripheral symptoms with strong clinical potential. The candidate will integrate in a lab with strong multi-disciplinary interests, endowed in a very stimulating environment and passionate to apply novel gene editing tools for the cure of neuropathologies.

Main responsibilities:

  • Optimize gene therapy vectors and delivery routes with translational relevance;
  • Validate this therapeutic application in truly innovative cellular and animal models of the disease;
  • Assess new neurological deficits in ATM cellular and animal models and their reversibility after gene therapy.

The candidate we are looking for has the following skills:

  • PhD in neurobiology and laboratory research;
  • Documented experience in molecular biology/genetics and/or functional brain studies (neuroelectrophysiology);
  • Previous experience on mouse models of neurological diseases;
  • Excellent knowledge of English, both written and spoken
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative and proactive attitude.

What we offer:

  • Type of contract: Co.Co.Co.;
  • Duration: 3 years;
  • Place of work: IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital, Via Olgettina, number 60 - Milan (Italy).
